Saved numbers can be transferred among handsets.

The TRU8888 features a traditional corded handset on the base unit and one cordless handset to get you started. The system requires just one phone jack for operation, no matter how many optional handsets (Uniden model #TCX800) you add–simply plug the base unit into a phone jack, and the additional handset will configure themselves to talk directly with the base unit. A total of ten handsets can be supported, including the corded one on the base.

The TRU8888 base unit houses a digital answering system with remote operation. It has the somewhat unusual ability to record phone conversations, so beware of restrictions in your jurisdiction. Additional features include a full four-line LCD on the base with message counter, an audible new-message alert tone, and message waiting indicators found on each supplemental handset’s charging cradle.

The phone has base and handset speakerphones, conferencing, trilingual menu display options, distinctive ring tones, mute, hold, redial, and headset compatibility (headset sold separately). You can transfer calls between handsets, use the handsets as walkie-talkies, and even use them as an intercom around the house or as a room monitoring system (baby monitor).

Customer Review: Cannot use Base with Headset!
WARNING! You cannot use the corded telephone with a headset. I confirmed with UNIDEN support that this is the case. Overall the telephone is okay, but not being able to use it with a headset renders it useless for me. I wish I had purchased a different telephone.
Customer Review: Simple improvements could have made this system a lot better
Since I work with telecommunications and are therefore familiar with what phones can do. Let me start off with saying what these phones can’t do as oppossed to what they can do. Flaw #1: When an incoming call comes in, the area code shows up withOUT being proceeded by the “1″. I.e. 212-555-1111, (instead of 1-212-555-1111) so when you in turn try to either save or dial the number, it will never work because the number 1 is now required in most areas. There is a feature on the phone that allows you to plug in the area code, of course it only allows for three digits intead of four. Flaw #2: The ability to have “silent” distinctive ringing per called id HOWEVER, some calls you don’t even want to know are incoming, in that event, it would be helpful to have “silent ring” for those type of calls. Flaw #3: The redial is limited to only three numbers, if this had been expanded, it could’ve circumvented flaw #2. Because when numbers are dialed, they have the correct order so the numbers can saved that way. Everything else I like about the phone, however I have audio issues on the wireless but it could be due to the logistics of my home. Finally, the only reason I bought the phone cause of the landline component and I can take the extension upstairs.

Customer Review: Photos and Ring IDs does NOT sync up to other Handsets
I purchased this phone with 3 additional handsets because I liked the Color display. The phone has a USB and With the included software and USB driver (not compatible with VISTA) you can download your personal photos and wav files to the phone. As with the cell phone, you can assign different photos and rings to different people in your address book. After registering my add’l handsets to the base phone, I was able to sync the address book to the other handsets, however, the ringtones and photos which I had assigned for individual people were not synched over with the address book on the other handsets. For the price of this phone (espicially since it’s a discontinued phone) I’m very disappointed that this is not able to be done. Phone quality is good, however, if you’re seeking for color and sharing the phonebooks photos and ringers with the other handssets, I wouldn’t get this cordless phone.

Item was advertised as “NEW”. Item arrived with plastic shell opened like a fish and with an “AS-IS” label on the product. Seller refused to acknowledge selling me a used product. I’ve never had that problem on eBay. I am never buying at Amazon again!
